Chelsea striker Olivier Giroud has urged Nabil Fekir to join him at Chelsea.
The France international has revealed that he has been willing his international team-mate, and fellow World Cup winner, to give up on signing for Liverpool in order to join him at Stamford Bridge instead.
“I spoke to him when we were with the France team and his transfer to Liverpool was aborted.” he told reporters.
“After that, it was a question about Chelsea. Even Eden had a couple of words with him.
“We’d welcome him, he’s a great player and of course we’d welcome him with pleasure.
“I don’t know if it’s news but the market finishes on Thursday.” he finished.
Lyon boss Bruno Genesio also commented on his skipper’s future, but was less certain about where he will be plying his trade in the new season as speculation continues to run rife in the media.
“It’s too early to say.” he said.
“He wanted to leave at the end of last season, but came back to training yesterday and was happy.
“Who knows? There may be opportunities that come up before the end of the window.
“For now, he is a Lyon player.” he finished.
It looks increasingly unlikely that Fekir will begin the season as a Liverpool player, but stranger things have happened in the transfer market.
