New Liverpool midfielder Fabinho has said that he hopes to persuade former team-mate Kylian Mbappe to join him at the club.

The Brazilian moved to Anfield earlier this Summer in a deal worth around £40m from French side AS Monaco, where the two played together before Mbappe left for rivals Paris Saint Germain a year ago.

Mbappe has since won the Ligue 1 title with his new club and the World Cup with France and Fabinho reckons he can convince the teenager to trade Paris for Liverpool one day.

“Kylian Mbappe sent me a text message congratulating me on going to Liverpool.” he is quoted by the Echo.

“I have not had the chance to congratulate him yet on what he did winning the World Cup.

“What France did was fantastic. What Mbappe has done in two years of professional football is amazing.

“He is a phenomenon and needs to be congratulated. As soon as I have the chance, I will.

“He has already said for the next season he will remain at PSG.

“But I will try slowly to convince him to come to Liverpool!” he finished.

It was clearly a tongue in cheek comment from the midfielder, but the way that Klopp has taken the transfer market by storm since arriving at Anfield will give fans more hope than in previous times.

Fabinho’s move to Anfield was one which few saw coming and he has revealed that the ball started rolling over a transfer some time before he put pen to paper on his contract.

“I believe everything happened about a month before the end of the season.” he said.

“Liverpool expressed interest to Monaco and then had a conversation with my people and everything went fast from then on. Things worked out.

“Were there other clubs? No. Just Liverpool. When I became aware of Liverpool’s interest I was very excited.

“I tried to focus on the end of the season with Monaco, but when you are aware a club of Liverpool’s dimension is interested in your services, obviously it touches you.

“I tried to play my best for my team, trying to come second in the French league, but obviously you think about it.” he finished.
