Klopp ready to hand Ward chance

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp is ready to let Danny Ward have a go at proving he can be number one at the club.

That’s according to Echo writer Ian Doyle, who writes that the German has been “hugely impressed” with the Wales international during preseason so far and is ready to give him “increased game time” in upcoming friendlies.

Klopp will take his squad to face Bury on Saturday afternoon before facing Blackburn Rovers in a week before heading jetting off to the US to take on Borussia Dortmund, Manchester City and Manchester United in more illustrious friendly action.

And twenty-five year old Ward could be given the opportunity to make a claim for the number one spot going into the new season as Loris Karius continues to struggle.

The German followed up his disastrous performance in the Champions League final defeat against Real Madrid back in May with a less than convincing showing against League Two side Tranmere Rovers this week.

He spilled a routine shot into the path of Jonny Smith, allowing the Rovers man to score in the 3-2 friendly win – which saw plenty of Liverpool fans call for a new number one to be signed.

But should Ward seize the opportunity during the upcoming games, he could save Klopp plenty of transfer funds by securing the number one spot for the new campaign.

Fans are divided over whether the answer to the goalkeeping problem lies with Ward or whether a deal to bring in a new face should be done.
