Lyon have announced that the deal for Nabil Fekir to join Liverpool is off.
The French club have said that their captain will be remaining where he is after they called off the talks between the two clubs over a deal worth around £50m.
Fekir had gone through all the formalities of the move, including a first interview and photoshoot with LFCtv, but the deal did not get over the line.
“Although Liverpool has been the priority of a possible transfer of Nabil. Olympique Lyonnais is delighted to be able to count on the presence of their captain in 2018-2019.” a statement by the Ligue 1 club reads.
Fekir appeared as a second half substitute in France’s 1-1 draw with the US, which was played at Lyon’s Groupama Stadium, and was greeted with loud cheers from the home fans.
The playmaker has now headed off to Russia with his international team-mates ahead of the upcoming World Cup and national coach Didier Deschamps has said no transfer talks are allowed during the tournament.
Liverpool are not expected to make another bid to sign the twenty-four year old this Summer.
