Liverpool are ahead of Manchester City and Arsenal in the race to sign Diogo Leite from Porto.
That’s according to a report by The Guardian, in which they claim that the Reds are leading the two Premier League rivals in chase to bring the defender to England.
There has been much speculation in the Portuguese press that the Premier League clubs are willing to pay the £13m release fee to take the central defender away from his homeland.
Leite has impressed visiting scouts playing for Porto’s B side and is likely to the subject of offers to lure him away from the Champions League club at the end of the campaign.
The report goes on to claim that Liverpool are eager to secure a deal for the nineteen year old and are already planning to loan him out next season to continue his progression.
Leite was a part of the Porto under-23 side which faced Arsenal this week and there were several visiting scouts in attendance to check out his performance.
It sounds like some of them were sufficiently impressed.
