Liverpool are interested in signing Barcelona goalkeeper Jasper Cillessen.
That’s the claim being made in Spain by Mundo Deportivo, who are reporting that the Reds are among a number of clubs looking to secure a deal for the Dutchman this Summer – and have already made contact over a transfer.
Napoli and Atletico Madrid are also said be keen on landing a deal to sign the former Ajax stopper when the campaign ends next month, with his contract containing a release fee of around £50m.
The Holland international is under contract with the La Liga giants until the Summer of 2021, but the twenty-eight year old has struggled to make much of an impact at the Camp Nou since moving there in 2016.
Germany international Marc-Andre ter Stegen has blocked his path into the first-team for the Catalan club and Cillessen could decide to cut his losses and move on this year.
He was previously linked with a switch to Anfield while still playing for the Eredivisie club, but he ended up heading to Spain to replace Carlos Bravo, who signed for Manchester City.
It remains to be seen whether Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp is still interested in bringing a new keeper to the club this Summer, but most would view AS Roma’s Alisson as the main target.
Cillessen is a reliable custodian, but his price tag and age may put off the club from launching an offer.
