Liverpool and Manchester United are set to go head to head in the transfer market this Summer.
That’s according to a report by Calciomercato, in which they claim that the two Premier League heavyweights are both interested in signing Kostas Manolas from AS Roma.
They cite a report by Manchester Evening News, in which it is claimed that United boss Jose Mourinho has asked predecessor Alex Ferguson to scout Samuel Umtiti of Barcelona.
Ferguson attended the Champions League quarter final between the two clubs this week, at the invitation of Roma president James Pallotta, and is said to have been more impressed by Manolas.
The Greece international popped up to the score the decisive goal to send his team through to the final four stage and has attracted increased interest from England in doing so.
Liverpool have been regularly linked with a move for the twenty-six year old in the past and are reported to be considering reigniting interest in his services this Summer.
Manager Jurgen Klopp has already added Holland skipper Virgil Van Dijk to his ranks and could opt to bring in another central defender to his squad to partner the Dutchman next season.
The improved form of Dejan Lovren could ease the need to make that move, however.
