Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has again been linked with a bid for RB Leipzig striker Timo Werner.
That’s thanks to a report by German newspaper Bild, who are claiming that the Bundesliga star is going to be the subject of a bid worth £87m at the end of the season.
The twenty-two year old has scored eleven goals in twenty-five Bundesliga appearances so far during the campaign and has been regularly linked with a move to Anfield over the past year or so.
Bayern Munich and Real Madrid are also being touted as potential suitors for the young forward by the article, but Liverpool are believed to be the most serious about signing Werner this Summer.
But the striker recently dismissed the idea that he could move away from the Red Bull sponsored club and confirmed that he will be remaining where he is next season.
“I’ve got a contract here until 2022 and I’m very happy in Leipzig.” he said.
“I’m definitely still going to be playing here next year.” he added.
And he has again spoken about his future during the current international break – stating that Leipzig do not want to let him follow team-mate Naby Keita, who will join Liverpool this Summer, out of the exit door.
“I did not want to clarify anything, just repeat what our sporting director Ralf Rangnick has always said, that he would not let me go, even if I wanted to, in the summer anyway.” he told Kicker.
“Ralph Rangnick says to me that I will stay, no matter what happens – as will those around me.
“I think we will have two or three very good new players coming in the Summer.” he finished.
But, in further developments to this story, the Echo have reported that Klopp has no intention of making a move for Werner, or any other striker, and will instead promote exciting youngster Rhian Brewster to the first-team squad.
