Reds linked with unlikely Benzema move

Liverpool have been linked with a move to sign Karim Benzema from Real Madrid.

Spanish website Diario Gol are claiming that the club have approached the Spanish giants over a Summer move for the thirty year old French striker, who is apparently valued at around £45m.

Benzema has been a regular goalscorer for the La Liga club since signing for them all the way back in 2009 from Ligue 1 side Lyon in a deal with around £35m.

Los Blancos are keen to sign Polish international striker Robert Lewandowski from Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich at the end of the season and that could see Benzema become surplus to requirements.

But Jurgen Klopp being interested in signing the Frenchman seems highly unlikely, given his age and likely wage demands – not to mention his work rate being some way off the standard the German likes from his players.

The former Borussia Dortmund boss is likely to have plenty of money to spend this Summer, but a move to bring the Real Madrid forward to Anfield seems a non-starter.

Klopp may well be relatively short on options up top, but he will have Roberto Firmino, Danny Ings, Divock Origi, Daniel Sturridge and Rhian Brewster in his squad come the end of the season.

Benzema will not be joining them.
