Former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher has been suspended by Sky following an incident showing him spitting at another car was shown on video.
The forty year old had been at Old Trafford as part of the Sky Sports presenting team for Liverpool’s 2-1 loss against rivals Manchester United.
In the incident, a Manchester United supporter is heard saying “Unlucky Jamie lad. Two, one.” to the ex-England player, before Carragher leans out of his car window and spits towards the car.
The daughter of the driver, who was videoing the incident himself, was sat in the passenger seat and was apparently hit by the spit aimed at their car, as her window was open.
Carragher later rang the family to apologise and said that he was not aware that the teenage girl was in the passenger seat, but a statement from Sky said that they “take this matter extremely seriously and strongly condemns Jamie’s actions”.
They also said that they had “made that clear to him in person” and “suspended him” because “It falls well below the standards we expect of our people.”
Carragher will not be part of Monday Night Football tonight and shall not be present for Sky’s coverage of the Champions League this week.
