Barcelona star Ousmane Dembele has revealed that he had the option to join Liverpool when he left Rennes in 2016.
The France international was a man in demand when playing in Ligue 1 and ultimately decided that the best move for him at that time was to head to Borussia Dortmund to play in the Bundesliga.
But he spent just one season with the German club before heading to Spain to play for current club Barcelona – who he also had the opportunity to join when making the exit from French football.
“I spoke to three clubs.” he told Onze Mondial.
“Dortmund, Liverpool and Barcelona.
“I had an appointment with FC Barcelona. I told them, ‘For next season, it will not be possible.
“But the next time you contact me, I’ll come. And that’s what happened.” he finished.
Dembele would no doubt have been a superb signing for Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp, but few can complain with how Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane have been playing in the wide positions for the team.
