Cagliari have warned Liverpool that a deal for Nicolo Barella will be expensive.
That is because their president, Tommaso Giulini, has publicly spoken about how highly he rates the midfielder as speculation mounts that other clubs could launch bids to sign their star player.
“For us, Nicolo is a modern midfielder and could be worth as much as €50million.” he said.
“He can play in any role.
“We think that Barella can become as good as anyone in his position, though his growth is not yet complete.” he finished.
Along with Liverpool, Italian champions Juventus have been linked with a bid to sign the Italian under-21 international at the end of the current campaign.
The twenty-one year old has represented his nation all the way through the youth ranks from under-15 to under-21, but is still awaiting a call-up to the full Azzurri squad.
He is likely to want to remain in Serie A in order to help his chances of catching the attention of the national side and a move to Juventus would seem more likely than Anfield.
But, should Germany international Emre Can decide to join the Turin club that could pave the way for Barella to replace him at Liverpool.
