Manchester United are set to rival Liverpool in the race to sign Jorginho from Napoli.
That’s according to an article by Jeremy Cross, the Chief Sports Writer of the Daily Star, who claims that Jose Mourinho has identified the Italy international as a Summer target.
Cross writes that the Old Trafford boss will sanction a £50m bid for the twenty-six year old to try and beat Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp to his signature at the end of the season.
Mourinho will lose the experience of Michael Carrick and Marouane Fellaini when their contracts expire at the end of the campaign and is eager to replace them in his squad.
It is reported that he sent scouts to watch Jorginho in action on multiple occasions this season, including when his Napoli side took on Manchester City in the Champions League group stage.
Mourinho is said to believe that Jorginho would be the ideal partner for ex-Chelsea man Nemanja Matic in his midfield, allowing Paul Pogba to push further up the field.
Interest from United could complicate Klopp’s pursuit of the Brazilian born midfielder – who is reportedly one of the German’s key transfer targets for this year.
