Holland international Wesley Sneijder has revealed why he rejected a move to Liverpool.
The playmaker was offered the chance of a switch to Anfield back in 2013 – but he spurned the chance to become part of Brendan Rodgers’ squad in order to sign for Galatasaray instead.
And he has subsequently stated his belief that he did the right thing – because he is “a winner”.
“Many clubs wanted to know when I was leaving Inter, and Liverpool was one of those clubs, so people were surprised I chose Galatasaray.” he is quoted by the Echo.
“Why Galatasaray and not Liverpool? But I am a winner, I play for prizes, so I went to Galatasaray because I thought that I would win more at Galatasaray and be champion than at Liverpool, and I think afterwards that I made the right choice.
“I have had nice years in Turkey.” he finished.
The thirty-three year stayed with the SuperLig club for four seasons, in which he was part of a side that won two league titles and a hat-trick of Turkish cups.
Sneijder now plays for Qatari club Al-Gharafa after spending a year in France playing for Nice alongside former Liverpool striker Mario Balotelli.
