Reds lead de Vrij race

Liverpool are leading the race to sign Lazio defender Stefan de Vrij.

That’s according to an article by GOL Digital, who are reporting that Arsenal man Arsene Wenger has shifted his sights away from the Dutchman as he closes in on a switch to the Reds.

The Frenchman is set to turn his attention to Atletico Madrid centre-back Jose Gimenez and has given up hope of persuading de Vrij to move to The Emirates rather than Anfield.

Reds boss Jurgen Klopp is said to be keen on partnering de Vrij with his international team-mate Virgil van Dijk, who arrived at the club from Southampton last month.

Lazio had been hoping to agree a contract extension with the Dutchman, but it appears that he has decided to take advantage of the expiration of his current deal by moving on at the end of the campaign.

Several other European clubs have been linked with offers for the twenty-six year old, with Juventus, Barcelona, Manchester United and Chelsea all touted as potential suitors.

But it would seem Liverpool lead the race to lure him away from Rome, if there is any truth in this story.
