Liverpool are in the race to sign Andre Gomes from Barcelona.
That’s according to a report by The Birmingham Mail, who seem an unlikely source for news on Liverpool transfer targets, in which they claim that several Premier League clubs want to sign the midfielder.
Tottenham Hotspur are claimed to be the main English club looking to sign the Portugal international this Summer, with Manchester United and West Ham United also mentioned as interested parties.
Liverpool have been linked with Gomes before, when he was touted as a possible makeweight in the deal that eventually took Philippe Coutinho from Anfield to the Camp Nou.
It appears that the Catalan giants may well need to shift some of their squad players in order to balance the books ahead of another busy Summer in the transfer market.
Whether Reds boss Jurgen Klopp is genuinely keen to agree a deal for the twenty-four year old remains to be seen, but you would think the German coach would have insisted on him being part of the Coutinho transfer if so.
Gomes only signed for the La Liga leaders in 2016, when he made a £35m switch from their domestic rivals Valencia, but he hasn’t made the expected impact and could be moved on this year.
