Colombia international James Rodriguez has said that he wants to join Liverpool in the Summer.
That’s according to Spanish newspaper Diario Gol, who are reporting that the playmaker has informed Real Madrid that he wants to make a move to Anfield at the end of the season.
The twenty-five year old signed for German giants Bayern Munich on loan for two seasons last year and still has over a season left to run on that deal.
But he has his sights set on replacing Philippe Coutinho at Anfield according to the article, despite turning around some indifferent early Bundesliga form to become a key player for Jupp Heynckes side.
Reds boss Jurgen Klopp is said to have earmarked the attacking midfielder as the perfect successor for the Brazil international, who signed for Barcelona in a deal worth £145m last month.
Rodriguez is likely to cost a hefty transfer fee himself when he finally makes a permanent exit from Los Blancos, but the chances of him heading to Anfield could be slim.
Bundesliga champions Bayern are unlikely to be willing to tear up the agreement they have to retain his services next season – and they may too be keen to agree a long-term deal.
Manchester United and Chelsea have also been linked with bids to sign Rodriguez.
