Liverpool will make a Summer move to sign Jack Butland from Stoke City.
That is the claim being made by Bleacher Report, who are reporting that the England international has been identified as the man to end the debate over the number one spot.
Manager Jurgen Klopp is said to have become increasingly aware that neither Simon Mignolet or Loris Karius can be trusted as long-term options in the position and has decided to sign a new keeper.
Stoke are not prepared to even consider letting the twenty-four year old move on this month as they find themselves without a manager and in the relegation zone.
Letting go of the goalkeeper, who many consider to be their best player, would be something they would be foolish to allow and any negotiations will be put off until the end of the season.
Leaving things until the Summer could work in Liverpool’s favour, because relegation to the Championship for Stoke would likely see Butland ask to be allowed to move on from the club and also potentially lower his asking price.
It remains to be seen whether Butland truly is the goalkeeper Klopp has set his sights on, with speculation still rife that AS Roma’s Brazil international Alisson is in the picture.
