Murphy not convinced by Keita

Former Liverpool midfielder Danny Murphy doesn’t appear too convinced by the signing of RB Leipzig’s Naby Keita.

The Guinea international will move to Anfield on 1st July after the two clubs agreed a deal last Summer and former England international Murphy doesn’t seem to think all that much of the African.

“I’m not sure, from what I’ve seen.” he told Sky Sports.

“Subconsciously you can look like you’ve downed tools when you’re protecting yourself a little bit, I wouldn’t judge him on that.

“I don’t know him well enough to say that. What I would say is he’s obviously very athletic, got a lot of qualities – a bit like Jordan Henderson has. Professional, good athlete, does his job really, really well.

“But he isn’t creative enough if you want to challenge for the title and the Champions League. Someone like Gerrard, Souness, Alonso, Mascherano – these type of players.” he added.

It doesn’t sound like a glowing endorsement of a player Jurgen Klopp spent most of last Summer pursuing and it has seen a lot of fans take to social media to question Murphy’s opinion.
