Former Liverpool midfielder Danny Murphy doesn’t appear too convinced by the signing of RB Leipzig’s Naby Keita.
The Guinea international will move to Anfield on 1st July after the two clubs agreed a deal last Summer and former England international Murphy doesn’t seem to think all that much of the African.
“I’m not sure, from what I’ve seen.” he told Sky Sports.
“Subconsciously you can look like you’ve downed tools when you’re protecting yourself a little bit, I wouldn’t judge him on that.
“I don’t know him well enough to say that. What I would say is he’s obviously very athletic, got a lot of qualities – a bit like Jordan Henderson has. Professional, good athlete, does his job really, really well.
“But he isn’t creative enough if you want to challenge for the title and the Champions League. Someone like Gerrard, Souness, Alonso, Mascherano – these type of players.” he added.
It doesn’t sound like a glowing endorsement of a player Jurgen Klopp spent most of last Summer pursuing and it has seen a lot of fans take to social media to question Murphy’s opinion.
Danny Murphy actually said Naby Keita isn't as creative as Javier Mascherano

Ladies and Gents. I give you "football expert" Danny Murphy! 😂
"I’m not sure (on Keita), from what I’ve seen…What I would say is he’s obviously very athletic, got a lot of qualities – a bit like Jordan Henderson has." 🤣
"But he isn’t creative enough like…Mascherano.” 🤣🤣

Danny Murphy has clearly never watched Naby Keita play football.

Danny Murphy has either been on a bender with Charlie Sheen or he’s just absolutely fucking idiotic 🤣 “Keita is not creative, like Mascherano”
Fuckin’ell lad 🤣

Danny Murphy isn't sure on Naby Keita, which is fine. Admits to not having seen enough of him. Says “you need someone in the middle of the pitch who can open teams up, dictate the tempo & play”, which is exactly what Keita does. You don't need to do much research to find that out

Danny Murphy thinks Naby Keita is not creative as Mascherano. What a time to be alive

Got a lot of time for Danny Murphy, but his comments about Keita not being a creative, driving player are absolutely ludicrous. Also, for what it's worth, think it's a complete no-brainer to bring in Riyad Mahrez. #LFC #transfers
