Reds keen to bring Strootman to Anfield

Liverpool have opened talks to sign Kevin Strootman from AS Roma.

That’s according to a report by Premium Sport in which it is claimed that the Dutchman is a surprise January target for the club.

Manager Jurgen Klopp has allowed Brazil international Philippe Coutinho to join Barcelona this week and looks likely to lose German midfielder Emre Can to Juventus at the end of the season.

Roma are said to be open to the idea of letting the Holland international make an exit after trying to move him on last Summer.

Former Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal wanted to take his compatriot to Old Trafford back in 2014, but was thwarted in his attempts.

Klopp is much more likely to be successful in a bid to bring the midfielder to the Premier League if he decides to go ahead and launch a bid to sign him.

Strootman, who is now twenty-seven, made the move to the Italian side back in 2013 from PSV Eindhoven after impressing in the Eredivisie.

  1. Another watch and lose I ask myself. Far too often we “eye” and then a couple of weeks later gone or interest out the window. Kloppie now needs to understand that we are a top pf the range club, with history that needs to be regain its place at the top. Play players if they are fit against all teams and, above all, play to win. Coutinho and Can need replacing, though Can not brilliant was handy as a sub and relief character. His problem was thinking he was better than he is. Yes, we have a broad set of CBs and CDs but we need some top class so kloppie needs to have scouted and buy. Need to ensure top four and remember FA Cup and CL campaigns still in front of us.
