Spartak Moscow player Leonid Mironov has been charged with racially abusing Liverpool striker Rhian Brewster.
Brewster made the allegation against the defender after his side’s 2-0 victory in the UEFA Youth League match on Wednesday afternoon.
The teenager had to be calmed down by his team-mates and members of the coaching team following the final whistle.
He made his grievance known to the referee and the fourth official was subsequently informed of what he alleges took place.
Liverpool also made a formal complaint to UEFA about it and the governing body have decided to charge Mironov over the alleged incident.
The case will be heard by UEFA’s Control, Ethics and Disciplinary Body, with a date for the hearing to be decided.
Kick It Out, who campaign against racism in the sport, have commented on the allegation ahead of next Summer’s World Cup – set to take place in Russia.
“It is extremely concerning to this organisation that yet another incident of racism has taken place involving a Russian club, particularly before the 2018 World Cup.” a statement reads.
