Matip out of Spartak Moscow match

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has confirmed that defender Joel Matip will sit out the visit of Spartak Moscow this week.

The Russian side head to Anfield for the last group stage game of the knockout tournament with both sides hoping to progress to the knockout phase.

And Klopp will be without former Schalke centre-back Matip after the twenty-six year old picked up an injury in the 3-0 win over Stoke City last week.

“He has hurt his muscle. I don’t know how long exactly he’ll be out, but he’s definitely not playing Wednesday.” he told

“A month? No, I don’t think so. But as always, it’s possible. We have to wait.

“But it’s possible that it will be shorter. We will see.” he finished.

Matip was forced to miss the 5-1 victory over Brighton & Hove Albion on Saturday after suffering the injury.
