Former Liverpool duo Rafa Benitez and Fernando Torres could be reunited in January.
That’s according to a report by The Mirror, who are claiming that the Spanish pair could be set to work together again.
Benitez is currently in charge of Premier League club Newcastle United and has led them back up to the top tier after they suffered relegation in 2015/16 season.
The former Valencia, Inter Milan, Napoli and Chelsea boss has seen his squad struggle for goals and is on the look out for a new forward.
Torres is coming to the end of his career at the age of thirty-three, but could be a sensible short-term solution for Benitez.
The Atletico Madrid striker is struggling to get as much game time as he would like and could be allowed to make an exit in the January transfer window.
A switch to St James’ Park to work with his compatriot for the remainder of the season with a view to extending the deal could be ideal for all concerned.
Southampton are also said to be keen on signing the former Anfield favourite, but the presence of Benitez is likely to tip the balance Newcastle’s way.
