Newcastle United will make a loan bid for Liverpool striker Danny Ings.
That’s according to a report by the Newcastle Chronicle, in which it is claimed that the twenty-five year old has been identified as a transfer window target.
Newcastle are managed by former Reds boss Rafa Benitez and he has seen his team struggle for goals so far this season.
The Spaniard has used former Stoke City forward Joselu as his striker so far, but the goals haven’t been coming at a high enough rate.
Ex-Crystal Palace striker Dwight Gayle has been dropped to the bench for most of the campaign so far after a good year in the Championship.
Benitez is said to see Ings as a good option to bring in and add some much-needed goal-threat to his squad for the second half of the campaign.
The former Burnley man has been limited to one substitute appearance for Jurgen Klopp’s first-team so far this season – and that came against Leicester City in the League Cup defeat.
He has been in fine form for the under-23 side, however, and that has seen interest in a loan deal rise from other clubs.
This could be a deal that suits all parties – especially if Ings has plans to gatecrash Gareth Southgate’s England squad for next Summer’s World Cup in Russia.
