Napoli defender Faouzi Ghoulam is close to signing a contract extension.
That’s according to Calcio Mercato, who are reporting the news as an “exclusive” claiming that they have discovered that only a few minor details remain on terms.
The Algerian international has been on the sidelines for some time now thanks to injury, but it appears that he is close to agreeing a new contract as he nears a return to action.
His current deal expires at the end of the season and Liverpool have been linked with a move recently – along with Juventus and Manchester City.
City boss Pep Guardiola is said to have pulled out of the race to land Ghoulam, but Juventus remain keen to sign him, according to the article.
Liverpool are also less likely to need Ghoulam thanks to the improved form of Alberto Moreno and presence of Andrew Robertson as backup for the Spaniard.
It now looks like neither club will be making a knockdown offer in January to sign the left-back.
