Liverpool vice-captain James Milner has spoken about the season so far in the build up to the Champions League visit of Maribor.
The Reds won the first meeting between the two sides 7-0 almost a fortnight ago and are expected to run out comfortable winners when the sides meet in the return fixture.
And Milner feels that the team has failed to fully gel so far during the campaign and believes that the signs have been there at certain times in some games – particularly the 7-0 win.
“We have had injuries and I think we are waiting for it to click.” he said.
“We have shown glimpses – when we showed it in Maribor, it was pretty devastating.
“We have to be on top of our game, set the tempo and come out all guns blazing.” he continued.
Milner has been restored to the midfield this season after playing the majority of the 2016/17 campaign in the unfamiliar role of left-back and has spoken at his relief at no longer being in that position.
“Last season I was asked to do a job and I did that as well as I could.” he said.
“I said I didn’t enjoy playing there but the team comes first.
“I have definitely found myself enjoying my football again playing in midfield.” he finished.
The former Newcastle United, Aston Villa, Leeds United and Manchester City man will be hoping to keep his place for the Maribor game.
