Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has asked for fans to give his players more backing.

The German boss has seen his side make an up and down start to the new season and has had to back some of his squad after stinging criticism.

And he has asked supporters to stop questioning the standards in the team and refrain from comparing current players to past heroes.

“The problem is here, the moment things don’t work out, we get compared with the past,” he said.

“They wreck the confidence of the players when they say things like, ‘You are not good enough’.

“It’s a problem.” he finished.

The likes of Dejan Lovren and Simon Mignolet have come in for plenty of negative press over the past week or so following a disastrous display against Spurs in the 4-1 loss.

Fans were more happy this week after the team returned to winning ways thanks to a 3-0 success over Huddersfield Town on Saturday.
