Liverpool could be tempted into making a move to sign Borussia Dortmund striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.
That’s according to a report in The Independent in which it is claimed that the Gabon international’s refusal to put pen to paper on a new deal with the German club has alerted interested parties.
According to an “exclusive” article by Calciomercato, Aubameyang was not interested in leaving the Bundesliga for the Premier League and instead had his sights set on a return to AC Milan.
Chelsea are also mentioned in the report as a potential suitor, with the departure of Diego Costa to former club Atletico Madrid and the injury to new star Alvaro Morata causing them issues in attack.
But it seems unlikely that Aubameyang will switch his sights from either a return to Milan or a dream move to join European champions Real Madrid next Summer.
Liverpool need defensive reinforcements more urgently and will spend around £55m to bring Naby Keita to Anfield from German club RB Leipzig, so a big money move for a twenty-nine year old striker looks unlikely.
Manager Jurgen Klopp has recently defended current number nine Roberto Firmino and still has the likes of Daniel Sturridge, Divock Origi, Danny Ings and Dominic Solanke contracted to the club.
So this latest link with a move for Aubameyang looks to be another false hope for fans who want to see him signed.
