Liverpool have been handed a massive injury blow with the news that attacker Sadio Mane is set to miss the next six weeks.
The flying winger has pulled a hamstring while on international duty with Senegal and will miss the next nine fixtures.
He has been immediately ruled out of the crunch games against rivals Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur.
The African will also sit out games against Maribor (twice), Huddersfield Town, West Ham, Southampton, Sevilla and Chelsea if he is out for the expected six weeks.
It will come as a big blow to manager Jurgen Klopp, who has seen Mane develop into one of his most important players since he arrived last year.
Mane was added to the list of nominees for this year’s prestigious Ballon d’Or award and will go up against team-mate Philippe Coutinho in the race to win it.
His absence could hand former Arsenal man Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain a chance to prove what he can do after a slow start to life at Anfield.
