Barcelona look to be ready to accept defeat in their bid to sign Liverpool playmaker Philippe Coutinho.
Spanish newspaper Sport are reporting that the La Liga giants are turning their attention to a bid to sign Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Dele Alli instead.
The England international has impressed since joining the Premier League club from MK Dons, after seeing a switch to Anfield fall apart, and has attracted plenty of admirers in the game.
Barcelona’s deadly rivals Real Madrid have also been credited with an interest in Alli, as well as his prolific team-mate Harry Kane, and could scupper any chance of a switch to the Camp Nou.
The Catalans are also closely monitoring another Spurs player in the form of Denmark international Christian Eriksen as they look to reinforce their squad going forward.
Spanish maestro Andres Iniesta is coming towards the twilight of his career and Barcelona are said to view Coutinho as his long-term successor – but they saw a series of offers turned down in the Summer.
A move for Alli or Eriksen would prove no easier to complete.
