Former Liverpool defender Steve Nicol has revealed what he thinks it would take for Jurgen Klopp to get sacked.
The ex-Scotland international was speaking on ESPN, where he said that the end of this season is too soon for Klopp to leave the club – but he felt that failure to reach the Champions League for the 2019/20 campaign would be the end for the German.
“No.” Nicol said when asked if Klopp should be given his marching orders by the club.
“But I would suggest that the following season, if it’s the same thing, then yes.” he added.
Nicol praised the German for improving the attacking side of the squad, but he was critical of Klopp’s apparently inability to turn around the team’s defensive fortunes.
“How many times have I said this? Going forward yes. No question.” he said.
“Defensively no.” he finished.
Liverpool supporters will be hopeful that it doesn’t come to that and Klopp can push the team into a top four finish again this season.
