Rafa eyes up Lucas reunion

Lucas Leiva has been at Anfield since 2007

Former Liverpool manager Rafa Benitez is reported to be keen on a deal that would see him link up again with Lucas Leiva.

The Newcastle United boss is being linked with a swoop for the Brazil international this Summer in the Northern Echo.

Lucas is likely to be allowed to make an exit from Anfield after a decade with the club and it looks like he could be set to reunite with Benitez.

The Spaniard brought the thirty year old to Liverpool back in 2007 during his spell in charge at Anfield.

Lucas arrived from boyhood club Gremio and has recently admitted that he would like to make a playing return to the Brazilian club at some point.

It looks like that emotional return could be put on hold while he makes another visit to the past by playing under Benitez, however.

Lucas came close to leaving the club last Summer, but he agreed to stay on as cover after talks with manager Jurgen Klopp.
