Milinkovic-Savic has emerged as a target for Klopp

Liverpool have had a bid rejected by Lazio for Sergej Milinkovic-Savic.

That’s according to Italian newspaper Corriere dello Sport, who are claiming that the Reds made an opening offer of £24m for the Serbian international.

The twenty-two year old moved to the Serie A club from Belgian side Genk two years ago and has built a growing reputation in Italy since claiming a place in the Lazio side.

Lazio paid £7.5m to snap up Milinkovic-Savic, but now want a reported £62m fee to allow him to move on – and that is a price Liverpool will have no intention of paying.

The midfielder is reported to be viewed as a potentially cheaper target for the Reds than RB Leipzig midfielder Naby Keita, who would command a hefty fee if he can be got away from the German club.

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp will have to pay big fees to secure the signings of key target Virgil Van Dijk from Southampton and former Chelsea man Mohamed Salah from AS Roma.

So any deal for Milinkovic-Savic would need to be considerably cheaper than the reported asking price.

    1. I have been a Liverpool fan for 34 years. Since 1990 the club has declined to such a degree that it is unrecognisable. There have been scattered trophies and challenges here and there, but no successes to write home about since 2005. The club has lost its identity, it’s credibility and it’s ethos of professionalism and ethical behaviour.
It’s not like the old days either. To be successful nowadays, as with any business, you need to invest. Sadly, we as a club are unwilling to do so – our owners are unwilling to speculate in order to accumulate. FSG haggle over relatively small amounts while our competitors get deals done. Long term investments eventually pay you back when success arrives and nothing breeds success like success.
The way that our once great club is now perceived is not as it used to be. Rival clubs and their fans no longer respect us. Players of other clubs do not see us as a great club. They see us as a once-great club. Rival clubs don’t have to sell to us. Lazio and Roma are decent clubs themselves and certainly won’t be bullied by a club whose success is in the distant past. We are on a level with those two clubs, yes, but we are not superior.
Pay them the money. Show them the respect they deserve and get the players to bring success. And stop penny-pinching and short-changing the fans. Most of all, stop ruining the world’s perception of the club. Frankly, everyone laughs at us when it comes to transfers – even our own fans are laughing when we are linked with big names. They know FSG won’t get it done – they rarely do – and the van Dijk show was just the latest (if the most embarrassing) display of amateurism on their part.
GET THE DEALS DONE. WE NEED SOMETHING TO SHOUT ABOUT AFTER THE FOOLS YOU’VE MADE OF US. WE NEED SOMETHING TO RESTORE THE LACK OF RESPECT FOR THIS GREAT CLUB AND IT’S FANS.
IF FSG CAN’T PROVIDE THAT, THEN I SUBMIT THAT THEY ARE NOT THE RIGHT CUSTODIANS FOR THIS CLUB.
