Rafa looking for Reina reunion

Benitez wants to work with Reina again

Newcastle United boss Rafa Benitez is looking to sign goalkeeper Jose Reina.

The Spaniard is currently with Italian side Napoli, but will reportedly be allowed to move on this Summer and Benitez would like to take him to St James’ Park.

Benitez, who has led the Magpies back up to the Premier League at the first attempt, refused to rule out the prospect of re-signing the thirty-four year old this Summer.

“Pepe is a great player but above all a leader in the dressing room.” he said.

“We missed him at Napoli in the year he went to Bayern Munich — he can make a difference both on and off the pitch.

“Would I take him to Newcastle if he left?

“I respect Napoli — as that’s where he is — and our club has a lot of goalkeepers who are doing well.

“We need to be calm, we’ll talk to the club and decide on our targets.” he finished.

Benitez worked with Reina at Napoli during his time in charge as well as at Anfield between 2006 and 2010.
