Liverpool have been linked with a £40m+ bid for Real Madrid’s Marco Asensio.
But Diario AS and Cadena Cope are reporting that the offer will be turned down with the twenty-one year old said to be key to manager Zinedine Zidane’s plans.
The La Liga leaders signed Asensio from Mallorca back in December 2015 from under the noses of rivals Barcelona for a fee of around £2.5m.
He then spent time back on loan with Mallorca followed by a season with Espanyol in 2015/16, where he had his first taste of La Liga football.
Zidane rejected further offers to sign the youngster up on loan and decided to manage his development closely at the Bernabeu.
Asensio has made almost thirty appearances for Los Blancos so far this season and any chances of a move to Anfield look very slim.
His rise to notoriety has continued further this season with a first call-up to the Spanish national squad.
Liverpool have also been linked with a move for Real Madrid’s Colombian attacker James Rodriguez, who looks set to join Manchester United, thanks to his availability.
It is believed that Zidane has decided Asensio is the man for the role next season and has duly made Rodriguez available for transfer.
