Gotze deal in doubt due to health

    Gotze celebrates scoring against Hoffenheim

Borussia Dortmund midfielder Mario Gotze has been ruled out for the rest of the season due to his metabolic disorder.

The Germany international was set to be the subject of another approach from Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp this Summer.

Gotze rejected a move to Anfield last Summer when leaving Bayern Munich in favour of a return to Dortmund, but Klopp was still interested in a potential deal.

But he won’t be looking to offer the World Cup winner a fresh start while his future remains uncertain due to the problems confirmed on Dortmund’s website today.

“Good news from Mario Götze (24): Borussia Dortmund’s German international speaks positively about the first phase of his treatment.” a statement reads.

“Götze was diagnosed with metabolic disorder in February, which meant that in the first instance it was necessary to make sure the World Champion was withdrawn from training.

“If he responds positively to treatment, Götze can start back training in early summer. The midfield player is currently undergoing rehab and an individual training programme.

“The long term target for the player is to be fully fit and ready to play for the start of next season.” it finished.

Dortmund CEO Hans-Joachim Watzke wished Gotze a “fast recovery” as well.

“BVB wishes Mario Gotze a fast recovery, also in the name of their ten million fans.” he said.

It now looks highly unlikely that Gotze will be arriving at Anfield at the end of the season.
