Mamadou Sakho has said that his strict fitness regime is to thank for his impressive Crystal Palace debut.
The France international played the full game as his new side beat Middlesbrough 1-0 on Saturday in the Premier League fixture at Selhurst Park.
And the twenty-six year old is pleased with how the first game of his loan spell with the London club went.
“My last game was ten months ago but during this time I have been working hard on my fitness and, after my performance, it has all been worthwhile.” he said.
“I am really proud to be involved in this victory, and from my point of view it is always about me giving my best when I am out on the pitch for the club, the team and the supporters.
“We played twelve against eleven in this game because the fans were really good for us and they gave us a lot of courage and confidence.
“It was nice to get the result for them.
“We played very well as a team, gave a strong performance and deserved the three points in a really difficult game.” he finished.
His new manager, Sam Allardyce, was also pleased with how the former Paris Saint Germain got on in his first Palace outing.
“It was a nice performance.” he said.
“It was his first Premier League game this season, so we spent a good bit of time on his fitness and he’s accepted that he had to put that extra work in.” he added.
Many Liverpool fans are hopeful that Sakho can show enough during the rest of the season to persuade Jurgen Klopp to bring him back to Anfield for next season.
It would seem that his days at Liverpool are running out, however, after Klopp put a £20m pricetag on the centre-back in January.
