Liverpool forward Sadio Mane is set to return from Africa in time for the Chelsea game.
The Premier League leaders will visit Anfield on Tuesday evening in a crunch game for Jurgen Klopp’s faltering side and Mane’s presence could prove the lift needed to get the season on track.
Mane missed a penalty in a shootout against Cameroon in the AFCON quarter finals on Saturday night following a 0-0 draw and that has ended Senegal’s participation in the competition.
Liverpool have looked a very different side without the former Southampton man since he departed for Africa earlier this month and the return of his pace and directness will be a welcome one for the club.
It is expected that he will only be able to make the substitute bench for the game after arriving back on Merseyside by private jet, laid on by the club, on Sunday.
His last appearance for the team was in the 2-2 draw with Sunderland, in which he scored the second goal and then gave away a penalty with a handball in the box.
Mane will need to turn his focus from the bitter disappointment of missing the decisive penalty for his nation to helping the Reds get going again.
