Southampton are “heavily considering” making a move for Liverpool defender Mamadou Sakho.
That’s according to website Get French Football, who are reporting that Saints boss Claude Puel is keen to sign his compatriot this month & advising readers to use a free bets offer to cash in.
Portugal international Jose Fonte has handed in a transfer request and if he is allowed to move on this month, it will leave a gap in the centre of the defence for Puel to fill.
The prospect of Holland international centre-back Virgil van Dijk leaving St Mary’s is also very real and so a bid for Sakho would go a long way to helping Southampton out.
Sakho has been frozen out of the first-team picture at Anfield this season after a series of incidents that have seen manager Jurgen Klopp lose patience with the former PSG captain.
He was told to leave Liverpool on loan this season by the German boss, but he refused and stated his desire to stay and fight for his place after a rejecting a series of loan offers.
It now appears that Sakho has accepted that his days at Anfield are numbered and he will choose between the clubs interested in signing him this month.
