Guardiola looking to pip Klopp to duo

ter Stegen has been mainly used in the cup competitions by Luis Enrique

Incoming Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola looks set to pip Jurgen Klopp to two players this Summer.

The Spaniard is reportedly close to sealing deals for Barcelona goalkeeper Marc-Andre ter Stegen Borussia Dortmund midfielder Ilkay Gundogan.

Klopp is said to be keen to bring both to Anfield for next season, but it looks like he will be missing out thanks to his old Bundesliga rival.

Ter Stegen has been mainly used as understudy to Claudio Bravo at Barcelona since the goalkeeping pair arrived at the Camp Nou back in 2014. Guardiola is said to want him to push Joe Hart for the number one spot at City next season.

Gundogan would likely walk into the side at the Etihad, however, and is said to be very keen to work with Guardiola. He previously worked with Klopp at Dortmund, but that doesn’t appear to be enough to sway things in Liverpool’s favour.

It will be a blow to Klopp to see the pair snub moves to Anfield in favour of City, but the German boss has plenty of options in the transfer market when it comes to targets.
