Liverpool’s chances of signing forward Alex Teixeira from Shakhtar Donetsk look to be slipping away.
The Ukrainian club are refusing to budge on their valuation of the uncapped Brazilian and it looks like time is running out for a transfer to be completed this month.
Ian Ayre went over to Florida to meet with officials from the Ukrainian outfit but was unable to reach a deal with an initial bid of around £24m for the twenty-six year old attacker.
A second bid of £28m was reported to have been made earlier this week – and that too was turned down by Shakhtar, who are notoriously tough to deal with in negotiations.
They are said to value Teixeira at around £35m to £40m despite his lack of international recognition and are not looking like moving away from that kind of figure.
Mircea Lucescu, Teixeira’s manager, has said that the player is worth the money they are asking and compared him favourably to Paris Saint Germain’s Angel Di Maria.
“He’s worth €50million.” he said.
“He’s incredible, very fast, very good technique. I compare him with other players of the same age who changed a club, Di Maria for example at Paris Saint-Germain.
“Teixeira can be at the same level, better even. He doesn’t get injured, and every year he gets better and better.” he finished.
