Former Manchester United manager Alex Ferguson has revealed that he considered signing Mario Balotelli.
The Scot wrote about the Italian striker in his new book ‘Leading’ and has said that he looked into taking Balotelli to Old Trafford when he was at Inter Milan.
Ferguson did his “homework” on Balotelli and got informed that signing him would be “too big a risk”.
“I did my homework on him, speaking to a few Italian contacts, but the feedback I got confirmed it was too big a risk.” he wrote.
“I don’t know whether this sort of candid professional courtesy exists in other fields, but for me it was a Godsend.” he added.
Balotelli went on to sign for United’s local rivals Manchester City before heading back to Italy to join AC Milan.
Liverpool manager signed the forward a little over a year ago for £16m before loaning him back to the Serie A club after he managed just one Premiership goal in 2014/15.
