The Independent are reporting that Mario Balotelli has been told that he has no future at Liverpool.
Sam Wallace’s article claims that the Italian striker has been left out of the friendly squads for the weekend double header against HJK Helsinki and Swindon Town.
Balotelli wasn’t part of the preseason tour of Asia and Australia – but the squad did fly out to Bangkok shortly after his adoptive father passed away.
Brendan Rodgers has also reportedly told Balotelli’s compatriot Fabio Borini to train away from the rest of the squad, along with left-back Jose Enrique.
Rodgers is now looking to make some sales after bringing in plenty of new faces to the squad and those three are being told in no uncertain terms that they are not part of his plans for the coming season.
Another player close to making an exit from Anfield is Rickie Lambert, who is getting closer to a switch to Premier League club West Brom.
He has not been told to train away from the rest of the squad, however, but will shortly be making an exit from his boyhood club after his dream move a year ago.
Balotelli has been linked with several clubs back in his home country, with Bologna the latest Serie A club to be mentioned. The £10m price tag is likely to be too much for the newly promoted side, however.
Sampdoria and Lazio are also being touted as potential destinations for the Italy international, but each are looking to make loan moves rather than cash bids and that is delaying Balotelli’s departure.
