Liverpool have had a bid of £10m rejected by Southampton for their right-back Nathaniel Clyne.
The twenty-four year old has been identified as a replacement for outgoing Reds defender Glen Johnson.
Reports claim that the club will return with an improved offer for the England international.
Manchester United and Chelsea have also been linked with moves for the former Crystal Palace man, but the Reds appear to be trying to steal a march on their rivals.
Liverpool signed Rickie Lambert, Adam Lallana and Dejan Lovren from the St Mary’s club last Summer for a combined £49m and look to be trying to bring in yet another Saint.
Jon Flanagan and Andre Wisdom both signed new contracts in the past fortnight, but it appears that Brendan Rodgers is looking to bring Clyne in as first-choice for the role.
