As Rafael Benitez prepares to be unveiled as Real Madrid boss following his announcement that he will be leaving Napoli, former Liverpool winger Ryan Babel has taken to Twitter to criticise his former manager.
The Dutchman, who failed to make the most of his ability at Anfield following a switch in the Summer of 2007, has said that Benitez “will make Ronaldo a great defender”.
Babel moved to Liverpool from Dutch giants Ajax and was tipped to become a star at Anfield. But despite some crucial goals against the likes of Manchester United and Arsenal, he never really going going.
And he seems to be making a dig at Benitez for that with his back-handed ‘compliment’.
“Benitez on his way to Real? He will make Ronaldo a great defender…” he tweeted.
He went on to try and clear up this tweet in a series of others, however.
“U don’t understand lol… I could fill your timelines with lots of stories what i’ve experienced. But I guess i have to wait when i officially retire to tell them in my book. Not that i was planning to write one but i know some ppl who will convince me doing that… Lol.” he added.
“Oh and for the record… Cause i see already see ppl take my comments the wrong way.
“I’m not saying he is a bad manager… He’s actually tactically one of the best… I’m talking about the person behind closed doors.” he finished.
