Liverpool are pushing Daniel Sturridge to declare himself fit for Saturday’s crucial match against Arsenal at the Emirates, after the striker was forced to withdraw from the England squad with a hip problem.

Sturridge has already missed five months of the season through injury, and initial reports suggested he could be out for another month with his latest injury problem.

However, the Anfield medical department do not think the injury is as serious as first feared, and are pushing Sturridge to make the trip to north London on Saturday.

The Reds know they need a win to boost their hopes of a top four finish, after suffering a damaging 2-1 defeat to Manchester United last time out.

Brendan Rodgers will already be without Steven Gerrard and Martin Skrtel for the trip to the Emirates, with both players having picked up three match bans after the defeat to Louis van Gaal’s side.

Raheem Sterling would be an option to play as a central striker should Sturridge miss out, whilst Rodgers has also been boosted by the fact Lucas Leiva featured for 71 minutes of Sunday’s All-Star charity match at Anfield following seven weeks out injured.
