Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers is reportedly interested in making a £15m move for Derby County midfielder Will Hughes in the Summer.
The nineteen year old has previously been linked with a move to Anfield, but signed a new four year contract with the Rams last year.
But it now seems that Rodgers will make an offer for the midfielder should Derby boss Steve McClaren fail to get the club promoted back up to the Premiership.
The Championship side have been contesting promotion all season with the likes of Bournemouth, Middlesbrough, Watford but have fallen six points behind. They remain in contention for an automatic promotion place and look well set for a play off spot at least.
Hughes, an England under-21 international, has been in strong form this season and is an important part of McClaren’s side, so it seems unlikely that he would be available to move if Derby achieve promotion.
With captain Steven Gerrard set to move to LA Galaxy in the Summer, Rodgers has been linked with several midfield replacements for the thirty-four year old.
