Brendan Rodgers has called for his Liverpool side to show more aggression when they take on Ludogorets in the Champions League tomorrow evening.

The Reds travel to Bulgaria on the back of four consecutive defeats in all competitions, knowing a fifth will effectively end their hopes of making the last 16 of the Champions League.

“We need to be more tenacious, more aggressive and have a greater capacity to defend better as a team,” he told the club’s official website.

“When there are moments to defend, you have to defend better – and that’s something that we’ll look to do.”

Rodgers was responding to comments made by Jamie Carragher following the Reds 3-1 defeat to Crystal Palace on Sunday, with the former Liverpool defender claiming they lacked fight.

“You look at the time and there are no men in the team. Sometimes you’ve got to grind results out,” Carragher told Sky Sports.

“There’s no leadership on the pitch. Liverpool aren’t getting beat by quality – they’re getting bullied.”

Jordan Henderson returned to training this morning ahead of the game, but Mario Balotelli looks set to miss out after injuring his groin on international duty.
