Liverpool in talks to sign Lambert

    Brendan Rodgers celebrates Liverpool's comeback

Reports are breaking tonight that claim Liverpool are in talks with Southampton to sign England striker Rickie Lambert.

Media sources are claiming a fee ranging from £4m to £9m is being negotiated with the managerless Saints for the 32 year old front man – who left Liverpool as a 17 year old schoolboy after failing to make the grade at Anfield.

Lambert has gone on to climb the leagues after joining the Saints from Bristol Rovers for a fee of £1m. After making the grade in his first Premiership season the striker went on to make his England debut under ex Reds boss Roy Hodgson. He scored 13 Premiership goals and laid on 10 assists for his team mates as well.

The boyhood Red will be hoping to get the deal done before jetting off to Miami with England – and his younger sister tweeted that she is “over the moon” earlier, before removing the tell tale message.
