Liverpool legend John Aldridge has claimed the Reds ‘owe Chelsea a lot’ for their part in some major transfer business.
The Reds overtook Jose Mourinho’s men at the Premier League summit with a 4-0 win over Tottenham at Anfield on Sunday.
The Chelsea boss has continually played down his sides chances of winning the title, claiming he does not have a world class striker in his ranks.
Meanwhile, Luis Suarez’s strike yesterday now means the Reds ‘SAS’ partnership have 49 league goals between them this season, and Aldo was keen to highlight Chelsea’s mistake in selling Daniel Sturridge for a cut price figure.
He said: “We owe Chelsea a lot. It was kind of them to give us £50million for Torres. And they did us another massive favour when they sold us Daniel Sturridge for a song.”
Aldo was also keen to praise Reds centre back Martin Skrtel, who has in fact fired two more goals in the league this season than Torres, with six to his name so far.
He added: “Skrtel has really turned it around considering he spent the second half of last season sitting on the bench.
“He has started backing himself much more in the opposition penalty box andhas shown his threat from set-pieces.”
